Issue 22 - Serendipity

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

"Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and

realize that what you've found is more suited to your needs

than what you thought you were looking for."  -- Lawrence Block

SERENDIPITY

Scott and Melissa were in the right place at the right time. For

Scott, it started on a Friday night in 1985.  He and two friends

went to see TOP GUN at a theater in Evansville, Indiana. Twenty-

year-old Scott had dropped out of college after two years. He

was working at Napa Auto Parts, wondering what to do with his

life.  TOP GUN gave him the answer.  The next morning he went to

the Air Force recruiter and enlisted.  He had visions of soaring

into the wild blue yonder.

When Melissa graduated from high school, she knew what she

wanted to do. On a Saturday morning in 1985, she went to enlist

in the Air Force. In the waiting room, she met a handsome young

man with Rick Springfield hair. There was an instant attraction.

She wondered what he'd look like after he traded in this great

hairdo for white walls.

They passed the time in the waiting room getting to know each

other. It was one time they both wished the recruiter had kept

them waiting longer. When Scott asked for her phone number, she

hoped he would call.  He did, again and again.

Since they had enrolled through the Delayed Entry Program, they

had six months to get to know each other before basic training.

Six months to fall in love.

Separated by basic training, they were reunited in tech school,

only to be assigned to duty stations 600 miles apart. After a

nearly 3-year, mostly long distance courtship, they married on

May 14, 1988. Six months later, they finally got to live

together as husband and wife when Scott was stationed at the Air

Force Academy with Melissa.  This month, they celebrate their

20th anniversary.

Scott went looking for adventure.  He found love, the greatest

adventure of all.

YOUR TURN

Think of a time you were certain what you wanted, then

discovered something else. Which was more suited to your needs?

SPEAKING SCHEDULE

SAFARI RV RALLY

Amana, Iowa, July 1 - 4

LOTUS WORKSHOP AND CONFERENCE

Minnetonka, Minnesota, October 17 - 19

ART OF THE SPARK WORKSHOPS

Here's what people had to say about some recent workshops:

"I must say I was deeply touched by the things that happened

that afternoon. My husband Stan, who has always been a great

husband but never particularly demonstrative, totally blew my

socks off. . . He's been so warm and considerate since that

afternoon--I'm just elated! So thank you from the bottom of my

heart--you are amazing!!"  -- Linda L.

"We had 25 couples participate in the workshop, who ranged in

ages from 27 to 78.  What a wealth of wisdom was shared during

our time together! The environment was light-hearted, even as

we spoke of the serious topic of love and honoring our spouses.

Mary's leadership created a non-threatening atmosphere that made

the event enjoyable even to the wife or husband who may have

agreed to attend the romance workshop with very little

enthusiasm."  - Rev. Ann M.

"This workshop raised my energy vibration by about 100%. I

think this may save my relationship which was almost lost."

- Val E.

Would you like to host a workshop for your church, workplace or

social group?  It's an affordable and exciting way for couples

to invest in their future.  A 3-hour workshop is $10 per person.

THE ART OF THE SPARK is the core reference of the workshop;

therefore, each couple must have or purchase the book. When more

than ten people attend, 20% of the proceeds are paid to the

hosting organization or person.  Workshops in Colorado can be

scheduled anytime, and workshops in various parts of the US can

be scheduled this summer.
