QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love." -- Hamilton Wright Mabi
MEET ME IN ST. LOUIE, LOUIE
Isn't it true? People jump at the chance to be involved in a conspiracy of love. Even Lou's secretary.
One chaotic Friday afternoon years ago, Lou's secretary called in the middle of an absolutely-no-calls meeting. She said, "You've got a phone call you simply MUST take."
Lou picked up the phone with an abrupt, "Yes?"
After a moment of silence, she heard her husband's voice singing the old song, "Meet me in St. Louie, Louie." It was not the best rendition of that old chestnut she'd ever heard, but she had to laugh at Jack's endearing use of her nickname "Louie." He sang with such gusto she was forced to hold the receiver away from her ear.
This allowed the collection of serious businessmen in the meeting to hear what was going on. Rather than being annoyed by the interruption, they were delighted. As soon as Lou hung up the phone, her secretary came in to deliver the flight number and the departure time. Lou had been given instructions to leave immediately after the meeting to rendezvous with Jack in St. Louis for a weekend getaway.
No questions. No excuses. Just do it.
Lou had just enough time to pack a small bag and catch the plane. In St. Louis, Jack met her at the airport and took her to a wonderful old English pub for dinner. They spent a romantic night in a fabulous hotel. After sleeping late the next morning, they toured St. Louis, starting with a stop at the top of the famous Arch. Their afternoon was highlighted by a visit to Busch Gardens, where they petted the Clydesdales and marveled at the lush flowers.
To this day, that spontaneous "just because" weekend is one of their fondest memories. Humming the tune, "Meet me in St. Louie, Louie" is sure to bring smiles to their faces.
When you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special events, remember what an honor it is to include others in your plans. This Valentine's Day, wouldn't you like to draw others into your conspiracy of love?
